Nettie Sue Hughes was born Sept. 30, 1932, in Olive Hill, the daughter of the late James Daniel and Lounettie Steward Clausel.
She was united in marriage to R.C. Hughes on May 24, 1953. Mr. Hughes preceded her in death on Nov. 26, 1994, following 41 years of marriage.
Nettie Sue graduated from Central High School in Savannah. She was employed with Hardin County Bank, where she served as a teller and customer service representative, retiring in 1995 after 22 years of service.  While working with the bank, she served as assistant director of the President’s Club, arranging travel plans for customers. Nettie Sue loved to travel and was very devoted to her family.  She also made one of the best pecan pies you could ever eat. Nettie Sue was a faithful member of Savannah Church of Christ, where she served as a former Sunday school teacher. She enjoyed the ladies’ Bible class and loved to help with church functions. 
Nettie Sue departed this life on Wednesday, May 11, at her home in Savannah, at the age of 83 years, 7 months, 11 days. 
She is survived by three daughters, Teresa A. Hughes of Brentwood, Tennessee, Cathy Stegall and husband Jimmy of Savannah and Anita Young of Nashville; five grandchildren, Justin Woods and wife Kathryn, Amie Woods Lusk and husband Derek, Ryan Young, Adam Young and Zach Young; five great-grandchildren, Luke, Owen and Tucker Lusk, Griffin and Ethan Woods; a sister, Betty Lou Blount and husband Ancil of Savannah; a sister-in-law, Kate Broyles of Decatur, Georgia; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, Nettie Sue was preceded in death by five sisters, Magdalene Hardin, Estelle Gillespie, Mildred Dickson, Juanita Wolfe, and a sister who died in infancy; and three brothers, James L. Clausel, James Edward Clausel and Harrison Odell Clausel.
Services were held on Saturday, May 14, at 1 p.m., at Savannah Church of Christ in Savannah with Jim Chamblee, David Wolfe, Justin Woods, and Jonathan Blount officiating. Burial followed in Bethlehem Cemetery at Crump. 
Pallbearers were Freddie Blount, Jonathan Blount, David Wolfe, Eddie Clausel, Brad Elam and Jim Broyles. Honorary pallbearers were Mike Smith, Bob Hardin, Jamie Easley, Buck McClendon, Larry Wolfe, Ronnie Wolfe, Billy Elam, Kenny Gillespie and Mike Sharkey.
