Pete Rinks

Oscar "Pete" Rinks was born in Hardin County on Feb. 24, 1942, the son of the late Oscar Elmer and Martha Maybell Ward Rinks.

On July 20, 1965, he was united in marriage to Martha Ann Matlock, who survives.

Mr. Rinks retired after 30 years as an iron worker. He was a member of Ironworker Local 167 in Memphis. Pete was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was such a kind and giving person, anyone who knew him loved him. Even the neighborhood kids called him "Uncle Pete." One thing Pete loved doing was being outside.

Pete departed this life on Saturday, June 1, in Savannah, at the age of 71 years, 3 months and 8 days.

In addition to his wife, Martha of Crump, he is survived by his children, Tony Rinks of Crump and Theresa McCormick of Savannah; two sisters, Shirley Stanfill of Henderson, Tenn., and Martha Jane Barnett of Rogersville, Ala.; one brother, James Elmer "Elrod" Rinks of Savannah.

Pete loved his grandkids, Lyndsay Chandler McCormick of Savannah and Colton Lynn McCormick of Savannah more than anything in the world and he also had a special place in his heart for Burlison James Frazier of Adamsville, who was like a grandchild.

In addition to his parents, Pete was also preceded in death by two brothers, Johnny and James Carroll Rinks.

Services were held on Monday, June 3, 1 p.m., at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah with Mike Moore, Mike Hunter officiating. Burial followed in the Memory Gardens at Savannah.
