Prentice Alton Martin, 79, of Savannah, died on Tuesday, Jan. 1, at Tri-County Convalescent Facility in Adamsville.

He was born in Alamo, Tenn., son of the late Frank and Rixie Gillim Martin. He was united in marriage to Marie Martin, who preceded him in death.

Mr. Martin served in the U.S. Army from 1953–1955. After receiving his discharge, he moved to Wrightstown, N.J., and started the United Cabs Taxi Company and was in business for 30 years. He also served on the city council of Wrightstown for 10 years. In the late 1980s, he moved to Savannah, and in 1991, he started River City Taxi, which he operated for more than 20 years.

He is survived by two sons, Michael Anthony and Tommy Martin; three daughters, Janice McClearn, Judy Ann Lynch, and Pat Stanton; three brothers, Pete Fanucci, Lee Martin and Lonnie Martin; three sisters, Francis Parrott, Peggy Brooks and Betty Smith; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren.
