Richard Edward Shirley services 7-21-11

Richard Edward Shirley, of Sardis, was born in Hardin County, on April 12, 1929, the son of the late Jess Harrison and Belle Conaway Shirley.

On Dec. 23, 1949, he was united in marriage to Geneva Powell, who preceded him in death on Aug. 12, 1987.

Mr. Shirley had been a farmer, worked weekends at H.I.S. at Saltillo and retired as a school bus driver for Hardin County Schools. He was a member of the Hinkle Community and the Sardis United Methodist Church.

Mr. Shirley is survived by his daughter, Sandra Lowder and husband Dennis of Sardis; son, Rickey Shirley of Sardis and his friend, Pat of Lexington, Tenn.; granddaughter, Jill Lowder Edwards and husband Bo; two great-grandchildren, Sarah Edwards and Emily Edwards; special friend, Linda Austin of Sardis.

Services were held on Thursday, July 21, at 1 p.m., at Lebanon Methodist Church in Sardis with Phil Bridges officiating. Burial followed in the Hanna Cemetery at Sardis.
