Rose Marie Johnson joined her husband “Smitty” in heaven on Saturday, Sept. 27. A career educator and devoted mother, she was a picture of love and kindness. Born in St. Louis, Missouri on Sept 25, 1926, she made Fayette County her home in 1973. For 30 years she was a teacher and principal at Rossville Christian Academy where she was immortalized when the elementary school was named for her at retirement.
She is survived by seven children, David (Joan), Michael (Barbara), Stephen (Julie), Martha Johnson, Susan Johnson, Andrew (Elaine) and Sally (Mike) Oliver; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She was very involved in her parish from its beginning, a staunch supporter of Fayette Cares, and very active with the Friends of the Library.
Services were held at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church, Somerville, Tennessee, on Wednesday, Oct. 1, at 10:30 a.m., with the graveside service at Memorial Park, Memphis, at 2:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Fayette Cares at FayetteCares.org.
