Sam Garrard Samuel "Sam" Garrard, 68, of Savannah, died Sunday, Aug. 1, at the Hardin Medical Center in Savannah. He was born in Hardin County, the son of the late William Braxton and Lillie Mae Smith Garrard. Mr. Garrard was captain for Alter Barge Line. He was a member of Southside Baptist Church. Services will be held today, Thursday, Aug. 5, at 1 p.m., at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah, with Benny Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in the Mountain View Cemetery at Hardin County. He is survived by one son, Shane Alfred Garrard; and one daughter, Shannon Alfreda Garrard, both of Savannah; four grandchildren; one sister, Vannie "Polly" Wolfe and one brother, Melvin Garrard, both of Savannah.
