Sept. 15, 1935 – Jan. 12, 2019

It is with great sadness the family of Thomas William Montgomery, known as Bill, TW, or simply “Papa,” announce his passing – after a brave battle with cancer – on Saturday, Jan. 12, at the age of 83.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents, Frankie Shaw Montgomery and Thomas Montgomery; and sister  Fran Salisbury.

He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Nancy Montgomery; brother, Frank Montgomery;  three daughters, Lynn Tatum, Frankie Smith and Millie Aldrich. Bill had six adoring grandchildren, Krista Tatum, Will Tatum, Spence Smith, Adrian Smith, Jack Aldrich and Julian Smith.

A native of Tennessee, Bill attended high school at Savannah High, coached high school football, and received a law degree from Memphis State. Prior to practicing law, Bill served in the Army during the Korean War. He practiced law in Florida, before moving to Georgia, North Carolina, and later settling in Waynesboro, Tennessee.

Bill enjoyed the great outdoors, fishing, hunting, boating, camping and gardening. He had a passion for reading, and a knack for storytelling. His infectious laugh will be missed by all who knew him. Bill’s magnetic personality and mischievous sense of humor taught us all not to take life so seriously. He will live in our hearts, our stories, and our laughs, forever.

A special thank you to all at Unity Hospice Lawrenceburg, as well as friends and family for their loving care.

A memorial service honoring the life of Thomas William Montgomery will take place at Savannah Cemetery located at 400 Cherry St. S., Savannah. The service will be held on Saturday, April 6, at 10:30 a.m. Friends and family are welcome to attend.
