William Turner

William Michael Turner, age 55, of Germantown, Tenn., passed away Saturday, Sept. 1, at Baptist Memorial Hospital, after a well-fought battle against pancreatic cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family as he went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Born on Jan. 9, 1957, Mike was raised in Savannah and graduated from Hardin County High School. He attended the University of Tennessee at Martin and graduated from Christian Brothers University, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in natural science.

He was an employee of Cargill’s Corn Milling Division for more than 30 years, where he last held the position as natural resource manager for North America. He also served on the board of directors for the TVA Association of Valley Industries and was president of the Memphis Manufacturing Council. He loved the Lord, his church, and his family. He enjoyed all sports, with his favorite being tennis. Mike had a heart for missions and served as an elder at Grace Evangelical Church. Mike was a wonderful husband for 29 years, amazing father and loving son. His warm heart and laughter will always be remembered by his family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his infant son, William Michael Turner Jr., and his father, Billy Enlow Turner of Savannah.

Survivors include his wife, Vera Ellen Turner; daughter, Michelle Ann Turner; daughter and son-in-law, Margo Turner Allgood and John Hunter Allgood of McShan, Ala.; son and daughter-in-law, John Ross and Megan Turner, and grandson, William Ross Turner of Simpsonville, S.C.; mother, Joy Ann Turner of Savannah; and sister, Kim Cooke, of Savannah.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 4, at Grace Evangelical Church. The interment will be 3 p.m. at the Savannah Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Grace Venture at Grace Evangelical Church, 9750 Wolf River Blvd., Germantown, Tenn. Arrangements by Family Funeral Care, Memphis.
