Willie Ray Irvin departed this life on Thursday, Aug. 9, at the age of 83 years, 1 month and 7 days.

Willie Ray was born in Savannah, on July 2, 1929, the son of the late Thomas Luther and Grace Lee Harrison Irvin. On July 2, 1949, he was united in marriage to Marie Gean, who survives.

Willie Ray was a lifelong Hardin Countian, and was a member of the Olivet Hunting Club and Savannah Church of Christ. He had worked for Owens Corning for 20 years and Brown Shoe Company for 20 years also. Willie Ray enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, arrowhead hunting, peanut farming and eating.

Willie Ray is survived by his wife, Marie of Savannah; daughters, Jan Moore and husband Fred of Pickwick Dam, Glenda Phillips and husband James, and Pat Shelby and husband Jim, all of Savannah; six grandchildren, Brian Moore, Chasity Harrison, Tim Shelby, Kendra Perry, Chris White and Justin White; nine great-grandchildren, Lauryn, Hardin and Catherine Harrison, Tyler and Riley Moore, Gavin and Kaile Perry, Rachel White and Eli Northcutt.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Neill.

Services were held on Saturday, Aug. 11, at 11 a.m., at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah, with Hardin Hosey, Jim Chamblee officiating. Burial followed in the Neill Cemetery at Savannah.
