Debra Lynn LaForce Simpson, 64, of Savannah, passed away on Saturday, July 29. She was born on Nov. 21, 1958, in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of Everett Lee LaForce and the late Brenda Gayle Devers LaForce.

On Nov. 2, 1990, she was united in marriage to James Allen “Jim” Simpson Sr., who preceded his wife in death on Sept. 13, 2015.

Mrs. Simpson honorably served her country in the U.S. Navy. She worked at Wonder Years Daycare for 16 years, Coleman Farms for five years, and Hardin County Nursery for two years. She was a member of The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7175 in Millington, Tennessee, and of the Christian belief.

Debra enjoyed spending time raising plants and doing arts and crafts. The greatest joy in her life was her family and she treasured spending time with them, especially taking vacations with her dad and being with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughter, Amanda Butler and her husband William of Savannah; son, Carl Kent and his wife Rebecca of Savannah; stepdaughter, Jamie Simpson of Savannah; father, Everett LaForce of Savannah; sister, Laura Beth Leohr and her husband Eric of Olive Hill, Tennessee; grandchildren, Sarah Ramsey, Kaylee Kent, Dalton Kent, Claudia Hughes, Wyatt Hughes, Timothy Kent and Carl Kent Jr.; and great-grandchild, William Chapman.

Memorial services will be held on Friday, Aug. 4, 3 p.m. at Shackelford Funeral Directors in Savannah, with Rebecca Kent officiating.
