Edith Marie Brewer Benson, 84, of Savannah, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 24, in Jackson, Tennessee. She was born on Sept. 23, 1938, in Hardin County, the daughter of the late Carol and Ida Mae Wilkerson Stricklin.

Ms. Benson worked at Ace Hardware in Savannah for 12 years and was a member of Savannah Church of God. She enjoyed tending to her gardens, flowers and chickens. She also enjoyed watching bluegrass music on television and listening to Wayne Jerrolds. She also liked to spend time going to McDonalds to meet everyone.

She is survived by her sons, Roy Stricklin and his wife Sherry, and Wade Brewer, all of Savannah; daughters, Teresa Turnbow and her husband Doug of Savannah, Loretta Stephens of Crump, and Charlotte Dawn Shankle and her husband Anthony of Savannah; brothers, David “Red” Stricklin and Howard “Strawberry” Stricklin, both of Savannah; grandchildren, Amanda Stanfill, Justin Stricklin, Grant Stricklin, Brent Stricklin, Daniel Shirley, Cody Shirley, Lennisa Thompson, Lawrence Gray, Allie Grace Stephens, Nicole Shankle, A.J. Shankle, and Haley Brewer; great-grandchildren, Addisson Stanfill, Owen Stricklin, Mason Stricklin, Alden Stricklin, William Shirley, Erica Thompson, Mykah Gray, Libby Gray, Mace Gray, Drake Shankle, Emeline Shankle, Harper Shankle, Archer Shankle, and Macey Stricklin; and a nephew who she raised and thought of like another son, Michael Bernatowicz Stricklin.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Ricky Stricklin; sisters, Mary Katherine Dodd and Robbie Harville; son-in-law, Mike Stephens; and 5 infant brothers and sisters.

Services were held on Tuesday, Nov. 29, at Shackelford Funeral Directors of Savannah, with Bobby Pickens, Daniel Holt and Jeff Crosswhite officiating. Burial followed at Wilkerson Cemetery in Savannah.
