Gary Donald Franks, 71, of Plainfield, Illinois, formerly of Savannah, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, Dec. 8. He was born in Savannah on Dec. 8, 1951, the son of James Lewis and Bertha Faye (Gladwin) Franks.

Mr. Smith worked for Commonwealth Edison for nearly 45 years as a maintenance planner at Romeoville Power Plant.

He was the stronghold of his family and will be greatly missed. His love for his wife, Margaret, and sons, was apparent in everything he did. He enjoyed spending time traveling to Tennessee and Mississippi, and also swimming in his pool. He will especially be missed by his dog, Copper.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret (nee Brown); his two sons, Steven Douglas Franks and Jason Brian Franks, both of Plainfield, Illinois; three grandchildren, Taylor Ann Franks, Emma Lee Franks and Colin Brian Franks; three great-grandchildren, Emarosa, Braiden and Ruthie; one brother, Michael (Bethany) Franks; two sisters, Carolyn (Steve) Parrish and Shirley (Bob) Massey; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Bertha; and one brother, Randy Franks.

A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, Dec. 17, 2 p.m. - 4 p.m., at Fred C. Damus Funeral Home, 3200 Black Road, Joliet, Illinois. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family would be appreciated.
