Herman Dean “Uncle Dean” Walden, 80, of Selmer, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 26. He was born on May 9, 1942, in Gibson County, Tennessee, the son of Giles Herman and Willie Lovie Gunter Walden.

Mr. Dean worked as a substitute teacher for Milan High School where his students gave him his nickname, “Uncle Dean.” He was a member of Assembly of God in Milan, Tennessee. He enjoyed hunting, farming, raising his mules and taking people for rides on his mules and buggy.

He is survived by his daughters, Beverly Annette Renfro and her husband David of Adamsville, Regina Carol Cheaves and her husband Gerald of Selmer, and Jennifer Kay Copeland and her husband Eddie of Adamsville; sister, Joellyn Walden Coble of Milan, Tennessee; brothers, Merle Andrew Walden of Milan, Tennessee, and Glynn Ray Walden and his wife Maria of Hayward, California; grandchildren, Jenny Lynn Drumright Kawano and her husband Adam, and Nickolas Aaron Drumright; and great-grandchildren, Dovie Jane Kawano and Everette James Kawano.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Henry Luster Walden; and sister, Dorothy Lorene Walden.

Services will be held today, Thursday, Dec. 1, 1 p.m., at Shackelford Funeral Directors in Savannah, with Joey Edwards officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Hermon Cemetery in Savannah.
