Irene Howell, 79, of Savannah, passed away on Sunday, May 7. She was born on Nov. 23, 1943, in San Diego, California, the daughter of the late John Baptise Brooker and Pearl May Jamison Anzer.

On Nov. 22, 1961, she was united in marriage to Don Howell, who preceded his wife in death on Dec. 16, 2003.

Mrs. Howell owned Murray’s Liquor from 1991 until 2009. She was a member of Hinkle Baptist Church in Hardin County. She was an avid reader and especially enjoyed reading all kinds of murder mystery and sci-fi novels or anything by her favorite author, John Grisham. Irene also loved to spend time visiting with her family and friends. She loved getting to know people and never met a stranger.

She is survived by her daughter, Julie Fohn of Olive Hill; son, John Howell of Saltillo; granddaughters, Megan Smith of Savannah, and Lilly Fohn of Olive Hill; and great-granddaughter, Piper Smith.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
