James Russell Murphy, 82, of Savvanh, passed away on Monday, Feb. 20. He was born on Aug. 28, 1940, in Hardin County, the son of the late Douglas Leander and Catherine Franks Murphy.

On Aug. 28, 1964, he was united in marriage to Betty Jo Stricklin Murphy, who survives.

Mr. Murphy worked at Clayton Homes for 24 years and Hardin County Solid Waste for eight years. He attended Forest Ridge Union and Abrams Chapel. He enjoyed gardening, yard work and mowing.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Jo Stricklin Murphy of Savannah; sons, Doug Murphy (Tasha) of Savannah, Tony Murphy (Amber Massa) of Clifton, and Rusty Murphy of Savannah; grandchildren, Tamara, Kyndall, Clayton, Hunter, Fisher, Tamia, James, Ryder, and Talia; and great-grandchild, Ryleigh.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy Stricklin.

Memorial services were held on Friday, Feb. 24, at Shackelford Funeral Directors of Savannah, with Daniel Holt and Pat Ainsley officiating. Burial followed at Lutts Cemetery in Lutts, Tennessee.
