James David Wicker, 81, of Adamsville, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 1. He was born April 27, 1941, son of the late Jodie and Doshia Wicker.

Mr. Wicker was united in marriage to Patty Welch on Jan. 22, 1966. He was a member of Bethlehem Methodist Church. He served his country in the U.S. Army in the Vietnam War.

His years of employment include Harwood Manufacturing and Automotive Fabrication of Adamsville. When these factories closed, he became employed at Leroy Somer in Lexington from which he retired.

He was raised on a farm and always knew hard work. He continued raising cattle, working in hay and doing farm work throughout the years.

His enjoyment was helping others and spending time with his grandchildren. Family members affectionately called him daddy and granddaddy.

He is survived by his wife Patty of 56 years; sons, Alan and Todd (Sharon) of Adamsville; four grandchildren, Hunter and Jayden Wicker of Adamsville, Jennifer Boswell (Luke) and Bailey Pickens (Tristan) of Florence, Alabama; two great-grandchildren, Ezra Pickens of Florence, Alabama and Aiden Boswell of Adamsville.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Bobby and Russell; and his daughter-in-law, Lisa Wicker

He will be greatly missed by family, friends and anyone who had the pleasure of meeting him.

Services were held on Sept. 3, at Shackelford Funeral Directors of Adamsville, with Tristan Pickens officiating. Burial followed at Old Union Cemetery in Adamsville.
