OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAJohn D. McMullen, 86, of Savannah, passed away on Friday, Sept. 15. He was born in Olive Hill, on Oct. 30, 1936, the son of the late Ben F. and Ella McMullen.
On Aug. 31, he was united in marriage to Laverne Maness, who survives.
John served his country proudly in the U.S. Army. In 1998 he retired as a pipefitter at Tennessee River Pulp and Paper Mill.
In addition to his wife of 61 years, Laverne of Savannah, he is survived by his children, Sherry McMullen Chauffe of Counce, and Phillip Van McMullen of St. Charles, Missouri; grandchildren, Rachel Elizabeth McMullen and Noah Andrew McMullen; and his brother, Paul Franklin McMullen.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Sarah McMullen Clement.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, Sept. 23, 3 p.m., at Shackelford Funeral Directors of Savannah, with Bobby Kelley officiating. Burial will follow at Piney Grove Cemetery in Savannah.
