Josephine Holmes (Nanny Jo) Swift, 85, of Savannah, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 17. She was born on Dec. 9, 1936, in Reagan, Tennessee, the daughter of the late Odra and Myrtle Wyatt Holmes.

Ms. Swift was a member of Crump First Baptist Church. She was also considered a deaconess of the church with her long time friends Betty Mallette and Virginia Snodgrass, who preceded her in death.

She was a friend to everyone she met. She was a hard worker in the garment industry and a very talented seamstress. She loved to cook and take her desserts and dishes to church or anywhere she went. She also liked to crochet in her spare time. Easter Sunday, Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve were her special gatherings with her children and grandchildren and anyone else who wanted to come, where lots of food and memories were shared.

She is survived by her children, Dana Holt of Savannah, Brian Gibbs and his wife Beverly of Savannah, Charlotte Plunk and her husband Anthony of Adamsville, Belinda Johnson and her husband Larry of Shiloh; and bonus son, Christopher Swift and his wife Tracy of Savannah; sister, Nancy Spears of Savannah; brothers, Terry Holmes of Bartlett, Tennessee and Billy Holmes of Lexington, Tennessee; grandchildren, Cindy Qualls, Kevin Johnson, Blake Johnson, Cory Johnson, Whittney Gammill, Caden Holt, Seth Holt, Anna Holt, Hunter Gibbs, Brianna Gibbs, Tegan Gibbs, Christian Swift and Maddie Swift; 10 great-grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren; and lots of nieces and nephews that called her Josephine, Josie or Nanny Jo. She was truly blessed with a large, loving family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Chandler Holt; great-grandson, Ryan Wint; son-in-law, Stan Holt; and brothers, John Holmes and Jerry Holmes.

Services were held on Monday, Nov. 21, at Crump First Baptist Church in Crump, with Dan Mallette officiating. Burial followed at Crump Baptist Church Cemetery in Crump.
