Lonnie Ray Wilkerson, 74, of Savannah, passed away on Friday, Dec. 8, in Nashville. He was born in Hardin County, Tennessee, on Nov. 26, 1949, the son of the late Brown and Lillie Wilkerson.

On July 8, 1972, he was united in marriage to Teresa Jane Banks, who preceded her husband in death on Feb. 16, 2014.

Lonnie served his country proudly in the U.S. Army, serving during the Vietnam era. While in the Army he worked in the Military Police as a dog handler. Lonnie received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device 60. After leaving the military he worked as a carpenter, and was the co-owner of Savannah Bowling Center. Lonnie loved being outdoors and was an avid bowler. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his daughter, Lisa Marie Hogan and her husband Travis of Savannah; grandchildren, Trey Hogan of Columbia, Tennessee, and Tatum Hogan of Florence, Alabama; and a special friend, Kate Ford of Savannah.

In addition to his parents and wife, Lonnie was preceded in death by one sister, Vicky Wilkerson Price.

Memorial services were held on Monday, Dec. 11, at Shackelford Funeral Directors of Savannah, with Carter Carroll officiating. Burial followed at Memory Gardens in Savannah.
