Lorene Gladys Petty Crotts, 97, of Savannah, passed away on Tuesday, March 7, after a brief illness at HMC Health & Rehabilitation Center in Savannah. She was born on Dec. 4, 1925, in Hardin County, the daughter of the late John and Ella Mae Stricklin Petty.

On Aug. 28, 1943, she was united in marriage to Warren G. Crotts, who preceded his wife in death on June 24, 2009. They were married for 65 years.

Mrs. Crotts was of the Assembly of God faith and attended the Old Town Gospel Church. She loved singing, playing gospel and bluegrass music, and playing the bass. She also loved gardening and working outside. Lorene was a talented seamstress and sewed for the public. She never met a stranger.

She is survived by her daughter, Janice Crotts; son, Larry Gene Crotts (Ellen); sister, Linda Jarrett; brother, Johnny Petty; grandchildren, Anthony Downing (Staci), Shawn Austin, Jennifer Stuart (Jason), and Matthew Crotts; several great-grandchildren; and several great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Agnes Petty, Susie Spinella, Lillie Young, and Edith Baker; and granddaughter, Kristy Downing.

Memorial donations may be made to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital.

Memorial services were held on Saturday, March 11, at Shackelford Funeral Directors in Savannah, with Larry Paul Rich officiating. Burial followed at Neill Cemetery in Savannah.
