Mattie Elizabeth Falls-Smith, 96, of Savannah, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 16, in Mt. Juliet, Tennessee.

She was born, at home, in Savannah, on Aug. 18, 1926, the daughter of the late Arthur Falls and Nora Wolfe-Falls. She was united in marriage with the late Douglas Edward (Ed) Smith. She retired from the Savannah Brown Shoe Company in 1989.

She was preceded in death by her husband and four children; Sandra, Bobby, Jerry and Dennis; as well as a granddaughter, Beth White.

She is survived by her son, Dr. Tony Smith of Nashville; daughter-in-law, Ms Janie Smith of Memphis; granddaughters, Dr. Teresa Harris of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Ms Jennifer Rinks of Savannah; grandson Jac Eskridge-Smith of Nashville; and step-grandson Teddy Jilek of Wisconsin; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Sister Mattie was a member of the New Life Pentecostal Church. She was known to many in the community as a prayer warrior and served as a support through her prayers. If she knew of someone in need, she would reach out with prayer. Now, one of God’s prayer warriors has made it home. She is surely still interceding on our behalves.

A memorial service will be held at a later date for family and close friends. In lieu of any gifts or flowers, feel free to make contributions to New Life Pentecostal Church, P.O. 1057, Savannah, TN, 38372, in her memory. Cherish the fond memories, to those whose lives she impacted.
