Myra was united in marriage for 46 years with her precious Mike on May 17, 1969. Mike preceded her in death on Feb. 6, 2015.

The couple had one son, Michael Cary Vaughan, who was their pride and joy; daughter-in-law Tanya Jeanette Moore Vaughan, whom they both loved dearly; and three grandchildren, Chelsea Jeanette Vaughan Fleming and her husband John Fleming from Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Micheal Cody Vaughan and his fiancé Samantha Holloran, from Murfreesboro, and Riley Hunter Vaughan from Savannah, all of which they were completely devoted to.

She was also the first female alderwoman and vice-mayor for the Board of the City of Crump; followed by becoming the first female mayor of Crump, in 1994, where she served for 10 years. Myra resigned in 2004 without finishing her third elected term due to the serious medical conditions of her husband, Mike, who was appointed chief of police under the previous administration before those same medical conditions cut his career short.

Myra was instrumental in creating the Crump Senior Citizens Program in 1996; as well as the annual Crump Santa visit in 1994.

As Mayor, Myra helped establish the City of Crump Police Department and the City of Crump Court System in 1995, which included creating all city ordinance and resolutions according to the state of Tennessee laws.

In 2001 she was featured in “Tennessee Volunteer Heroes,” where she was noted for outstanding dedication to improving her community, senior citizens, and youth such as the establishing of the Crump Softball League and the Crump All Stars of 2002 for 7- and 8-year-olds; along with supporting the community churches and schools of Crump.

Activities and accomplishments included in the “dash” of her life were receiving the Reelfoot Girl Scouts Council 1993 “Woman of Distinction,” receiving numerous awards for her short stories and poetry, which included publication in both “The National Book of Poetry” as well as the “World of Poetry Press.”

Myra started writing for the Savannah Courier in 1988. She wrote a weekly column in 1988 and also wrote a weekly column as a community writer in her “Crump News,” which she continued for almost 28 years.

Other employment included Hardin Medical Center for 10 years; West Hardin Elementary School for approximately seven years; manager of Video Corner in Savannah; and the Crump Post Office as postmaster relief for 10 years.

Myra is survived by her son, Michael C. Vaughan, and wife, Tanya; three grandchildren; Chelsea J. Vaughan, Cody Vaughan and Riley Hunter Vaughan; niece, Michelle McAlpin; and two great-nephews, Jeffrey Reaves and Zachary McAlpin.

Viewing and visitation was held on Saturday, Dec. 9. Cremation is the chosen option and her ashes will be mixed with those of her beloved husband, Mike.
