Peggy Jane Pettigrew Churchwell, 80, of Savannah, passed away peacefully on Friday, Dec. 23, in Franklin, Tennessee. She was born in the Gilchrist Community of McNairy County, on March 8, 1942, the third child of Robert D. Pettigrew and Laverne Gilchrist Pettigrew Calvert.

Mrs. Churchwell was baptized at Two Rivers Baptist Church in Nashville. In her later years she attended Mt. Sharon Presbyterian Church in Gilchrist and Robertson Chapel Methodist in Savannah.

She graduated from Adamsville High School. She attained the highest rank in Girl Scouts. She married Reggie M. Churchwell on July 21, 1961. She and her husband started DAMAC, Inc., in Adamsville, a manufacturer of custom imprinted stadium cushions.

After moving to Nashville, she was very involved in their company Nashville International Entertainment. She was also a successful real estate agent. Her greatest accomplishment in life was helping raise her grandchildren, to them she was Nana.

She is survived by her best friend of 62 years, Reggie M. Churchwell; daughters, Laurie Stephens of Franklin, Tennesseee, Deanne Smith (Kevin) and son, Mark Churchwell; grandchildren, Casey Stephens (Cristy), Christopher Stephens, Taylor Smith, Garrett Smith, Morgan Churchwell Jones (David) and Mallory Churchwell Beecha (Mayer); great-grandchildren, Everett Stephens, Nolan Stephens, Wyatt Stephens, Silas Jones, Sawyer Jones and Shepherd Jones; brothers, Ike Calvert (Charlotte) and Mike Calvert (Wanda); and sister, Connie Calvert Wolfe (Jay).

She is preceded in death by her parents, Robert D. Pettigrew and Laverne Gilchrist Pettigrew Calvert; stepfather, George W. Calvert; brother, Larry Pettigrew; sister, Patsy Pettigrew; and great-grandson, Sutton Jones.

Graveside services were held at Gilchrist Cemetery on Monday, Dec. 26. In lieu of flowers, please make donation memorials to Mt. Sharon Presbyterian Church or St Jude Children’s Hospital.
