Peggy Sue Carter Decourley, 84, of Adamsville, passed away and departed this life on Wednesday, June 12. She was born on Dec. 10, 1939 in the Dumas Community of Tippah County, Mississippi, the daughter of the late Elmer Hampton and Ola Adele Thomas Carter. She shared a birthday with her father, Elmer.
On June 14, 1961, she was united in marriage to Joe E. Decourley, who survives. Joe and Peggy were happily married for 62 years, 11 months, and 29 days.
Mrs. Decourley owned and operated Decourley Beauty Shop in Savannah for 35 years. She loved to spend time sitting in her chair with pet dog. She also loved to listen to Wayne Jerrold’s Band play music and sing. Peggy was a member of Morris Chapel Bapist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Joe E. Decourley of Adamsville, Tennessee; sisters, Jamie Smith of Ripley, Mississippi and Linda Emion of Memphis, Tennessee; and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Peggy was preceded in death by her brother, Charles Carter.
Memorial services were held on Sunday, June 16, at Shackelford Funeral Directors of Savannah, with Mike Moore officiating. Burial followed at Smith Cemetery in Savannah.
