Rev. Roger Anthony Hopson, 71, senior pastor of the Centenary United Methodist Church,Memphis passed away Saturday, Oct. 15, from heart failure. He is the son of the late He was the son of the late Bernice and A.G. Hopson.

Mr. Hopson is a 1968 graduate of Central High School, and earned a B.S. degree from the University of Tennessee at Martin, and a master of divinity degree, with honors, from the Interdenominational Theological Center in Atlanta, Georgia. He served as a former social studies teacher in Dyer County, then as United Methodist pastor, district superintendent , bishop’s assistant, and Council on Ministries director during his 42-year ministry.

He is survived by his wife, Dr. Cynthia Bond Hopson; son Marcos; daughter, Angela, four grandchildren; one great-grandson; sisters, Debra Russell, Anna Robinson, Dineta Walker, Judi Donaldson and Naomi Miller; brothers, Vincent, Donald, Rufus and Maurice Hopson.

Memorial services will be on Saturday, Oct. 22 at 1 p.m., with visitation beginning at 9 a.m., at Bartlett United Methodist Church, 5676 Stage Road, Bartlett, Tennessee.
