Ruby Jean Hayes, 85, of Savannah, passed away to her eternal home on Saturday, Jan. 14. She was joined once again with her husband, Chester Hayes, after 52 years of marriage on earth. She is the daughter of the late Albert and Lizzie Gray.

Mrs. Hayes was a woman of strong faith who was a pillar in her church community.

She worked at Angelica uniform company as a quality control auditor before retiring, then working as a volunteer for Hardin medical center. She loved her family dearly and spent her days painting, traveling and cooking large meals for her many family get togethers. She loved attending services at Double Springs Baptist Church and singing in the choir.

She is survived by her two daughters, Karen Holcombe (Dean) and Carol McElya (Mike); her sister, Lucille Lard (Grady, who preceded her in death); her grandchildren, Jonathan Monday (Karen, who preceded him in death) and Carley Scott (Colton); four great-grandchildren, Valerie Monday, Dakota Monday, Mary Hayes Scott and Hudson Scott; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Leon Gray.

Services will be held at Shackelford funeral home in Savannah on Friday, Jan. 20. Visitation will be from 1 p.m.to 3 p.m., followed by funeral and graveside services.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to American Cancer Society in honor of Ruby Jean Hayes.

Services will be held on Friday, January 20, at 3 p.m., at Shackelford Funeral Directors in Savannah, with Tyler Webb officiating. Burial will follow at Neill Cemetery in Savannah.
