Thelma McCowan Alexander, 92, of Savannah, passed away on Sunday, July 10. She was born in London, Kentucky on March 28, 1930, the daughter of the late Edward and Nannie Robinson McCowan. On December 14, 1947, she was united in marriage to J.P. Alexander Jr., who preceded her in death on Oct. 4, 1997.

Thelma was a member of the Savannah Church of Christ and was the co-owner of Alexander Hall Grocery. She enjoyed reading, traveling and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

She is survived by her children, John Edward Alexander and his wife Glenda, and Janet Paradies and her husband Abrom, all of Savannah; grandchildren, John Brent Alexander of Savannah, and Brittni Hooper and her husband Lee of Jackson, Tennessee; great grandchildren, Ava Alexander, Rider Alexander, Brice Hooper, Logan Hooper and Hunter Hooper.

In addition to her parents and husband, Thelma was preceded in death by her sisters, Opal, Donna and Edna.

Services were held on Saturday, July 16, at Shackelford Funeral Directors of Savannah, with Jim Chamblee officiating. Burial followed at Savannah Cemetery in Savannah.
