Venita Ray Surratt, 64, of Adamsville, passed away on Friday, Oct. 21, peacefully, surrounded by family at her Adamsville home, after a short illness. She was born on March 30, 1958, in Savannah; she is the youngest daughter of the late Ray and Mary Ellen Surratt of Adamsville.

Mrs. Surratt worked in the garment industry for several years alongside her father, Ray. She was involved with civic and community events and organizations throughout her lifetime. Venita loved people and one of her greatest joys was helping others, which she often did. She also loved traveling, visiting many countries and states during her lifetime.

Venita’s dearest joy was her daughter Olivia (Christopher) Osborne, who survives. Olivia and husband, Chandler Osborne, recently moved to Adamsville to be with and care for Venita during her last months.

In addition to her daughter and son-in-law, she is survived by her sister Mitzi Surratt of Adamsville. She is also survived by an aunt, Barbara G. Maness (Joe Dan) of Selmer. She also leaves behind many family members and friends who will miss her dearly.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by grandparents Audrey and Aubrey Surratt, and Robert and Dorothy Wright, all of Adamsville; as well as several aunts and uncles.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, Nov. 5. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m., with services at 1:00 p.m., at Shackelford Funeral Directors in Adamsville, with Mike Kelley officiating.
